The Sudetenland commemorative medal was established on October 18, 1938. It was awarded mainly to members of the Wehrmacht and Waffen-SS, participating in the secession of the Sudetenland from Czechoslovakia. After March 15, 1939, the medal was also awarded to participants in the German occupation of the rest of Czechoslovakia. The distinguished participants of both events also received a bronze buckle with a motif of Prague Castle (with the German name Spange Prager Burg). The Sudetenland commemorative medal was awarded until 1 December 1939. A total of 1,162,617 Sudeten commemorative medals and 134,563 buckles were awarded.
